Turning 26 is a little bit of a drag not going to lie. Every year I do cry on my birthday for the simple fact that I’m getting older and time is flying by. However, as I reflect on what has happened in my life since my last birthday, it brings a huge smile to my face. Not every day was roses & champagne. I went through a very hard break up, physically and emotionally, but I also achieved some pretty awesome goals. Even that hard time had a positive outcome. There were way more happy days than sad days. My brother told me something that really hit me hard. He said everyone wants to hangout with you because you are a go getter. You set goals and you crush them. I never thought about that before. Doesn’t everyone accomplish their goals I thought? I also thought to myself what goals is he actually talking about because I didn’t set any last time I checked! But then I really thought about it, and I did meet goals this year and actually have made some lifelong memories that I will never forget. Here is a little recap of my year from 25- 26.
I threw myself a quarter of a century birthday celebration with a Paris theme! All of my close friends & family were there and that means the most to me!
I tried the flying trapeze for the first time, something always on my bucket list. I love new adventures especially if it has some fitness attached to it.
I did a few basketball games, finally saw Derrick Rose play in person (my favorite player) & met the legend LJ Johnson from the Knicks.
I went through a break up with my boyfriend which was tough, but grew up in the time. I went to my first concert ALONE, it was Mariah Carey Christmas concert and it was amazing!
I traveled to Mexico and had a one on one girl’s trip with my best friend, which was the perfect getaway.
I got back together with my boyfriend and we have been stronger than ever.
I booked a very spontaneous trip to Miami, we booked it 3 days before departure and after the brutal winter we had it was nourishing to say the least.
During this trip, I finally fed a giraffe (I am the biggest giraffe lover) and cried, this was definitely a goal for sure!
My best friend moved away from me to Florida, that was another rough time for me.
I bought a puppy and added to my little family of me and my boyfriend. The joy he bring us is indescribable but definitely taught us a lot of responsibility.
I took my boyfriend to Jamaica! We relaxed with fruity drinks and climbed the Dunn Rivers Falls.
I started this blog! Something I wasn’t sure about/extremely nervous about but now I know this was meant to be!
I traveled to Paris!! Paris was number one on my bucket list, and after having a Paris themed birthday party, and then going not even a year later was astonishing.
I did rock climbing for the first time, and it was fun but definitely hard. It showed me how tough I actually am and won’t give up.
I celebrated my 2 year anniversary with the most handsome guy I know! Just to see us go through such a tough time & come out back on top is definitely a goal I didn’t plan on.
I traveled to Tampa, Florida to see my best friend & experience clear water Florida.
As I sit here and reflect on my 26th Birthday, I have met 17 goals and that’s just to say the least. There were so many little things I am forever grateful for, like just watching my boyfriend and the dog play together. Coming home and being greeted with such unconditional love from my little dog, everyday after work. The fun pool days in the summer just lounging.
So as my day is ending what will be my goals for next year? What will I want to reach by the time I am 27. Here’s a list of a few of my new goals, hopefully I can meet them:
1) My blog will have had a few sponsors
2) I will own my own apartment
3) Start cooking at least once a week
4) Go to South Africa
5) Change a person’s life
6) Do more volunteer work with my Church
7) Complain less
Of course, life never goes as planned. I will try my hardest to meet these life goals. I can’t wait to see what 26 has in store for me. I can’t wait to see all the unexpected goals I will have met. I look forward to another year of being happier!
